Peak Energy, Sumitomo, Delectrik & Rondo Energy
Peak Energy
Starting this week’s roundup in Burlingame, CA where Peak Energy, the manufacturer of sodium-ion ESS of sodium iron pyrophosphate (NFPP) chemistry is headquartered. Peak Energy announced the contract to supply 4.75 GWh of its NFPP ESS to a leading developer Jupiter Power in a deal worth up to US$500 million.
Bigger picture: This announcement comes on the back of Peak’s first grid-scale ESS commissioned in Denver, CO last month. If nothing else, this huge deal proves that healthy demand for NFPP ESS exists. Peak’s ability to scale-up supply might be the determining factor - not a bad position to be in at all!
Sumitomo
From Tokyo, Japan: Sumitomo has completed a deal to supply a 2 MW / 12.6 MWh vanadium redox flow battery (VRFB) ESS to Idemitsu Australia for Idemitsu’s Boggabri Coal Mine.
Bigger picture: the vanadium electrolyte for the VRFB ESS will be supplied by Vecco Group which runs a vanadium electrolyte manufacturing facility in Queensland, Australia. This is the latest move by flow battery OEMs to improve the industry’s supply chain resiliency while minimizing shipping costs and increasing domestic content.
Delectrik
From Greater Noida, India: India-based VRFB manufacturer Delectrik has commissioned India’s first VRFB ESS in partnership with one of the largest utility companies in India, NTPC. The 0.5 MW / 3 MWh ESS was manufactured in India.
Bigger picture: Delectrik steps into the limelight with its first utility-scale field unit which brings the company crucial reliability boost as it moves to the next stage of commercialization.
Rondo Energy
From Alameda, CA: Rondo’s first project in Southeast Asia, rated 33 MWhth, went online on 13 November 2025. This Rondo Heat Battery (RHB) leverages a modular standardized design slated for mass production.
Bigger picture: The commercial operation of Rondo’s largest RHB, rated 100 MWhth, occurred last month and this was followed by a deal to provide a 100-MWh RHB to Heineken earlier this month. Rondo is well on its way to achieving mass production and deployment.
Field history is the most important aspect of demonstrating product reliability. Check out the latest LDES deployments in the LDES Tracker.
