Find out what's new in the emerging ESS technologies ecosystem
Eos on 2025 US Reconciliation Bill (OBBBA)
Eos Energy Enterprises released its Q2 2025 and H1 2025 financial statements this week. Highlights of Eos’s financial performance include:
Year over Year (YoY) H1 revenue growth: +~243%
YoY H1 cost of goods sold (COGS): +~92%
The company retained a strong revenue guidance for 2025 (US$150-190 million) citing the data center market segment and OBBBA as the major tailwinds. OBBBA provisions such as Foreign Entity of Concern (FEOC) are expected to limit the eligibility of lithium-ion battery (LIB) ESS and components for tax credits given the dominance of China in the LIB supply chain. Eos therefore expects the reliance of its Zinc-hybrid ESS solution on domestic (US) supply chains to give it a substantial advantage over its LIB ESS peers. Additionally, Eos’s current cash position is healthy having raised various forms of funding in the past year.
Terra-Gen’s LIB LDES Project
Terra-Gen, an independent Power Producer (IPP) focused on renewables and energy storage, is advancing its planned hybrid project in the permitting process. The project faces full environmental impact review (IER) next.
Project name: Discovery Solar PV and storage
Capacity: 1.4 GW solar PV; 1 GW / 8 GWh lithium-ion battery (LIB) ESS
Location: Kern County, California
Of particular interest is Terra-Gen’s selection of LIB BESS for long duration energy storage (LDES) applications. The low and continuously falling LIB prices has led to the production of 8-hour+ ESS solutions which are cost-competitive with ‘traditional‘ LDES technologies. The continued cost competitiveness of LIB ESS against alternative solutions will definitely be tested in the U.S. in the near future when hiked tariffs rates on goods imported from China, South Korea and Japan kick in later this year.
Inaugural Flow Batteries North America (FBNA) Conference
The inaugural flow battery conference in North America is set to be hosted by the Battery Council International (BCI) in Chicago, Illinois. The FBNA conference shall run from October 27 - October 29, 2025. Most of the major flow battery manufacturers will have exhibition booths and leading industry thought leaders including the inventor of the vanadium flow battery chemistry, Maria Skyllas-Kazacos, will be in attendance.
Yours truly will be speaking on a panel about flow battery bankability. Check out the conference agenda and other details here: https://batterycouncil.org/flow-batteries-north-america-2025/.
